One Mistake, One Goal

Of course, it had to be a counter from our own corner. Of course, it had to be Elanga. For all our tidy possession in the first 20 minutes, Forest needed just one moment—one lapse—to punish us. Dorgu probably could’ve done better to stop him, but let’s be real: Onana’s positioning was, yet again, questionable. How many times have we said that this season?
Forest have the best home defensive record in the league (just 10 goals conceded), and yet, we made them look like prime Mourinho’s Chelsea on the break.
The One That Got Away
Elanga ran the show tonight. Pace, directness, end product—everything we wish Antony could be. 15 million euros. Let that sink in. Meanwhile, we spent £85m on a winger who still doesn’t know his right foot exists.
Ten Hag’s stubbornness with Antony—while freezing out Elanga and barely using Amad—is one of the great mysteries of our season. Maybe, just maybe, if we’d trusted our actual wingers instead of forcing square pegs into round holes, we wouldn’t be here.
Possession Without Punch
Zirkzee started up top, Højlund benched, and surprise—we created next to nothing. The wing-backs provided width but no real threat. The No. 10s? Ghosts. Garnacho had one of those days where nothing came off.
Mount’s cameo was the only flicker of hope—his first shot nearly fooled everyone into thinking we’d scored. And just seeing a United No. 7 back on the pitch after so long? Felt like a glimmer of what could be.
But stats don’t win games. We dominated possession, moved the ball well at times, but when it mattered? No cutting edge.
Same Old Mental Health Rollercoaster
I was doing fine for two weeks. The international break was peaceful. No stress, no heart palpitations. Then United return, and within minutes, Elanga is celebrating.
Maguire’s late header nearly saved us—90+6, of course, because why make it easy?—but this club loves to tease before the inevitable disappointment.
Forget the League, Focus on Thursday Nights
At this point, the Premier League is a write-off. Europa League is our only hope for salvation—and maybe a CL spot.
Do I care about the derby this weekend? Not really. But it’s United-City, so we can’t just roll over. Still, if Ten Hag rotates for Thursday, I won’t complain.
Final Thoughts
Another game, same frustrations. Some positives (possession, Mount’s return), but the same old flaws (defensive mistakes, no attacking spark).
